Implementing Computer Vision and AI Technologies for Traffic Violation Monitoring and Detection

Tangonet Solutions has always been at the forefront of harnessing cutting-edge technologies to solve complex problems. In one of our recent projects, we took on the challenge of enhancing road safety by addressing red light violations using a blend of Computer Vision and AI technologies. This project is a testament to how innovative solutions can transform urban traffic management systems.

Object Detection: The First Step in Violation Detection

The cornerstone of our violation detection system is object detection, tracking and identification. We’ve programmed our algorithms to identify and classify vehicles within images or video frames with high precision. The AI algorithms we’ve developed can detect a car’s presence, model, and even predict its actions with remarkable accuracy.

Object Segmentation: Enhancing Accuracy

Next, we delve into object segmentation, which refines our detection capabilities. By partitioning the images into segments, we can isolate and focus on the traffic signals and their interaction with the vehicles. This granularity is crucial for determining whether a vehicle has indeed committed a red-light breach, parking violation or other traffic infraction.

Object Tracking and Identification: Monitoring Vehicle Movement

The final piece of our AI trifecta is object tracking and identification. By following the trajectory of a vehicle across frames, we can determine if it crossed the intersection post the red light within a “violation detection zone” (outlined by the white rectangle below). This continuous tracking is essential for establishing a pattern and understanding driver behavior and to determine the type of violation and who committed it – in this case by license plate capture.

Algorithms and Methodologies

We employ the most advanced methodologies within these areas, such as YOLO (You Only Look Once) and SSD (Single Shot Multibox Detector), to optimize red light violation detection. By utilizing libraries like TensorFlow, we’ve significantly improved the accuracy and performance of our system. This careful orchestration of technology not only brings forth the power of AI in traffic management but also ensures that our streets become safer for everyone.

Our project is more than just a technological achievement; it’s a step toward making smarter, safer cities.
